The photo above was taken the day we pulled the car out of storage, and I must say “It was about time.” This ’81 camaro was my daily driver during my high school years and treated me very well. I bought the car back in 1998 with approximately 65k miles. The car was already road worthy but need a little T.L.C. to make it dependable and stylish. First thing we did was drop the transmission and get it rebuilt. At first we were only going to get the 3rd gear synchronizer replaced but after more inspection we decided to get it all rebuilt. This was the most involved project.
This car treated me very well, and I always had the ambition to replace the engine, redo the dashboard, and give on faithful some cajones. That time is now. The rest of this blog will be a detailed step by step process of the restoration from a newbies point of view.
My overall goal for this blog is not only inspire other newbies to take on take on the restorations they have always wanted to do, but also to generate a lessons learned along the way and develop a reader base who I can learn from.
I plan to post about once every two weeks, and based on my knowledge and my goals for this car I expect this journey to take approximately 1 to 2 years.
